On Saturday, November 14, 2024 our Bennington section of the Green Mountain Club had a potluck dinner and presentation about Trail Maintenance. It was a great time for all, including a game of 'Match the tools to the Description'. We realize that not all of our members could attend. so we took the Keynote presentation and recorded a voice over of the slides so that everyone could see the slides along with a summary of the spoken words that took place that evening. So, get your favorite brew and enjoy this 20 minute presentation just as if you were there! Thanks to all who made this event happen. Our trails would not work without continuous Trail Maintenance - Go Volunteers! Enjoy the presentation below

March 9th was a great day as the Green Mountain Club partnered with The Young Explorers 4-H Club at the Bennington Free Library for an afternoon exploring outdoor activities. Explorers went on a scavenger hunt, identified the 10 essentials for camping, learned about setting up a good campsite, and identified animal tracks. Much thanks to Linda of the library and Ashley, the 4H leader. GMC participants: Lorna, Robin, Marge, Ann, Billy.

![]() This is the table that existed at the Melville Nauheim shelter on the Long Trail for many many years. The entire top portion had seen many days of use by thousands of AT and LT hikers. The Bennington Section of the Green Mountain Club had an idea: Why don't we salvage what is possible and restore this table to usefulness? Enjoy the pictures in this gallery; they tell the story of hope and restoration better than words How did the new boards get to the shelter? It is about an hour hike to the shelter along the '20' bars route. We made 4 trips total during the project: reconnaissance, demolition, substructure rebuild, final table top. At each return trip we carried out the older rotten wood. Our team worked the miracle restoration. Many thanks to Tim, Ken, (Freya the dog), Martha, Hubey, Kathy, Robin, Barb, Ann and Billy
