- Map, guidebook, compass, and GPS (optional)
- First aid kit
- Extra food and water
- Cell phone (optional, for emergency only)
- List of participants
- Extra clothing
- Wool socks
- Wool hat
- Water filtration kit or purification tablets/drops
- Emergency blanket or tarp
- Sleeping bag
