Long Trail Day Challenge (IS OVER!)
Thanks for Supporting the Green Mountain Club!
for each mile that was hiked, a dollar was donated
The Details of the Hikers in the Challenge are shown below...
In case you missed the Challenge, here are the details leading up to the Long Trail Day Challenge, Saturday, September 10th, 2022 it was a chance for us all to give back to the trail and get outdoors and do some walking.
WHAT?
Background:
The Green Mountain Club protects and maintains over 500 miles of trails throughout Vermont. Vermont's “Long Trail” is 272 miles reaching from the Massachusetts border to Canada. The Bennington Section protects and maintains 14.4 miles on the Long Trail in southern Vermont, as well as numerous local trails. It takes a lot of effort, education, volunteerism, and funding to make this happen.
WHEN?
The Bennington Section of the Green Mountain Club is sponsoring a week-long event in which anyone can be a part.
Saturday, September 3 through Sunday, September 11.
WHERE?
You can walk on nature trails in any state or city where you live, not just Vermont!.
The goal is to get out and enjoy the beautiful nature of our planet.
An anonymous donor will match $1 for each mile walked during the week of Saturday, September 3 to Sunday, September 11.
You can walk alone, with a group, with your family, walk a short distance or long distance, walk multiple times during the period.
HOW?
For Example:
If a family of 4 walks 2 miles, that’s 4X2 = 8 miles and $8 will be donated by our donor, or you can choose to donate the amount yourself.
If you want to go all out and form a team to try and walk 272 miles (equal to the length of the Long Trail), go for it!
If you want to support the GMC, but are not able to get out and walk, you can still donate.
Donation matching is available for both GMC members and non-members. Out of state walkers are welcome to participate.
DONATION
After you finish your walk, you will need to complete a form on the Bennington GMC website letting us know who walked, where you walked, the distance you walked, and the date you walked.
This Challenge is no longer active and this link has been deleted
On this site you can choose to have the anonymous donor match your miles, or you can choose to match the miles yourself, or you can choose to donate another amount.
